SEC approves first ETH spot ETF, but further delays may follow

As Nate Geraci, CEO of US ETF specialist ETFstore, told X, “This week is the deadline for the US Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to approve an Ethereum (ETH) spot ETF. The SEC must approve a 19b-4 (a formal request for review) before the ETF can launch, and even if it does, it could slow down the S-1 (securities registration statement) if it believes there is insufficient participation.” The SEC must approve both the 19b-4 and the S-1 when reviewing a new ETF. The SEC is due to decide whether to approve the 19b-4 for the VanEck Ethereum ETF on May 23 and the Ark21 Shares Ethereum ETF on May 24.
