Zhao Changpeng more likely than expected to receive medium sentence

The Cointelegraph, citing multiple sources, reported that a court is likely to sentence former Binance CEO Zhao Changpeng to a lengthy prison term when he goes on trial on April 30. Moe Vela, director of administration under US President Joe Biden, said: "While the case of Zhao Changpeng cannot be compared to that of FTX founder SBF, the US authorities are now showing a strong commitment to zero tolerance for cryptocurrency illegal actors. They are using this opportunity to send a message to the wrongdoers." Mark Bini, former Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of New York, also commented, "Unlike the SBF criminal case, Zhao Changfeng's case appears to be a strict liability offense (a regulatory offense, a crime that imposes liability based on conduct alone, without requiring elements such as willfulness or negligence). It is possible that the court may impose a more severe sentence than initially expected."
