Canadian Bitcoin Spot ETF Suddenly Suspended in South Korea.

A Canadian-German bitcoin spot exchange traded fund (ETF) that has been available for investment in South Korea for the past few years has suddenly been suspended, according to The Korea Economic Daily. This comes in the wake of the financial authorities banning the trading of bitcoin spot ETFs listed on U.S. exchanges. It has been pointed out that inconsistent regulations by financial authorities have led to growing confusion among brokerage firms and investors. In a press release titled "Regarding U.S. Bitcoin Spot ETFs," the Financial Services Commission said, "It may be contrary to the government's existing stance on virtual assets and capital market laws for domestic securities firms to broker overseas-listed Bitcoin spot ETFs. "There was an internal debate on whether to ban only U.S. ETFs or also Canadian and German ETFs, which were previously allowed," said an official at a securities firm. Major securities firms such as Mirae Asset have confirmed that they have also banned Canadian-German ETFs.
