OKX security breached by deepfake video...$2 million in user assets stolen

“The security of certain user accounts of Chinese cryptocurrency exchange OKX was reportedly breached in a deep-fake video created by hackers using artificial intelligence (AI) technology on March 3 (local time),” cryptocurrency media WooBlockchain reported, citing a community report.

According to the victim who reported the incident, the hackers allegedly obtained the OKX user account by purchasing his personal information on Telegram and used the AI deepfake video to recognize the user's face for the password change process. The victim even reportedly used Google 2FA two-factor authentication, and claims that approximately $2 million in cryptocurrency was stolen from his OKX account.

In a statement, OKX said, “We are aware of the widespread news of OKX user account theft online. In fact, we have been following up on these issues since the time they occurred and are handling the case with our partners.”
